Any 'casual' auto-x'ers here?

Postby snowfox » Thu May 28, 2009 11:40 am

Like the title says...

It's been a long time (16+ yrs) since I've been out on course and I'm kicking around the idea of making a little personal time to head out and have some fun. I'm not looking for a competitive career or anything, just looking for some fun (legal) ripping.

Anybody else into the fun-run scene here? Recommendations on good events to hit (or skip) would be appreciated.

Rex strikes me as a not-so-casual about it... I'm taling about taking the daily driver out in standard street trim, not slapping the gumballs on and adjusting the suspension and all the 'real' stuff, much less having a dedicated track car.

My experience with crossing indicates that my car is not really any more likely to break down on course than in my daily driving - assuming the car is kept in decent repair on a normal basis.

Well if your talking about mild mods. All I need is rear sway bars and I'm set. If I blow my transmission ill just buy another one. Same with the .motor

I'm not concerned about the intensity of the mods - I've got a lot more than just bars going on. I'm just checking around for folks who maybe hit the course a few times a season, just for fun - you know, not going for series points or anything.

Given my mods and especially what I started with - Fox wagon for cryin' out loud - I could be Rex racer's alter-ego ... "Wrecks Racer"!!! I may feel a new screen name coming on there. :thumb:

Jon, have you been to the Stockton Fairgrounds SCCA event? Any good? You recommend SCCA as opposed to? NASA?

Thanks, r_r. That's the type of feedback I was looking for... My last event was at the Alameda County Fairgrounds back in 93, so I'll need to blow a lot of dust and cobwebs off the ol' skillz. To date myself a little, I started crossing back in the day with the NCSCC. Seems like they've disappeared, now. Between them and the SCCA, it seemed like there were a couple events a month at Ala. Cty. F-grounds back in those days.

Poked around on the SCCA site a bit - seems like I have to join their club to do anything in the Bay Area. Weaksauce for someone just going for the casual thrash about course. Do you know of any other groups that host decent events?

i'd love to take my civic out on something like that, but the intensity of my mods would leave me at the bottom of my class. granted it'd be fun, but i seriously doubt i could drive my car 100% without wrecking it.. i still need to find somebody that wants to rip on it while i sit behind a laptop tuning it :) and i need tires.

The gli has bilstien pss9, hotchkis sway bars, upper lower front and rear stress bars plus the extra rear sway bar thingy, I believe it has camber plates too, drilled slotted brakes, stg2 revo, n75 valve, and a bunch other shit I can't remember that my buddy has done to it. I pretty much helped him do everything to the car, I'm buying it from him in 2 weeks when I go home to Florida. I won't be able to make the sept autox but the oct one I probably could, what time is it.

I run RT-615s but I'm considering going with something better, not sure what yet though. Im going home to buy the car and the time I'm going home there hapens to be a autox goig on too, so it will be the last time by buddy will be able to autox he car.
