oem install...

Postby HumboldtCorrado » Fri Nov 17, 2006 10:19 pm

ok, i'm looking to get rid of my sony xplod mp3 deck.. i don't like how it flows with my (stock) interior in my '92 Corrado. now that i've rebuilt my engine, i can start messing around with the rest of the car... anyway...
i was wanting to install a factory mk3/mk4 deck so it semi-matches my interior and looks stock, and then run everything back to a 5channel amp, to the rest of my speakers and a small sub (i don't need a lot of boom-boom, just enough to add some emphasis, know what i mean?)
i have no problem doing any of this, but i wanted to see if anybody's amp'd their stock deck before? how does it sound with aftermarket speakers? i currently have 4 channel pioneer 6x9's in the rear, polk 5.5's in the doors, and infinity kappa's in the dash. i will also be getting a connector for my ipod. i assume the mk4 deck would give me the most control with any of the various connectors? i wired my ipod to the sony, but just using the aux input RCA's on the back of the deck, so i can't control the ipod with the deck, and it doesn't charge.

thanks.

frank

thanks for the reply. i think i'd still like an oem deck. there's quite a bit of theft around these parts, and the less attention i bring to my stereo, the better. :wiggle:
anybody else?

I've always had Kenwood in my vws and the colors match well. The one I have in my MKII right now is one of those mechanical hidden faces that flip around when you turn it off so all you see is a black panel. it looks kinda like a radio delete panel. I'll take a pic of it today and post up. Maybe even a video of it in action... :D

thanks for the replies guys. i'm not looking to go aftermarket, i already have aftermarket, and would rather just go with an OEM deck. wiring isn't an issue; i've already rewired the whole system with the aftermarket stuff i have (i had to, my corrado came stock w/AKTIV, which apparently sucks balls, as they had amps on each speaker). i already know i'll have to rewire everything again if i amplify an oem deck, and i don't have an issue with that. i plan on cleaning up the rats nest that is currently occupying the spot behind my dash anyway.
anyway, if anybody has amplified a stock deck with some aftermarket speakers, please let me know how it sounded. thanks!

COSMIC GTI wrote:Also if your amp doesnt have speaker-level inputs you will need a converter to line-level. Running RCAs (these are line level) to the amp is best, using speaker outs/level raises distortion values greatly because the headunit amp is low power and high THD, and the external amp will amplifly that extra noise and distortion as well. So in my book its not optimal and I try never to hook up that way.

thanks for the info. do newer decks have rca outputs?
