what are your actual goals??? lots of easier ways to get the same result depending on what you want. I currently have 3 different Ipod setups installed, a 4th that I need to sell, and a few other ideas I have kicked around.

Kinda just want to get away from the need of the HU. I only use the iPod in the car anyway, not a big radio listener. Maybe having an aux line-in also would be nice...

I would personally just run with a headphone jack to rca cable input.... use that to input into the amp. Since either way you will still need to control the ipod thru the ipod. If you further want to hardwire the charging.... then just hardwire a charger. Or use a cig adapter as a charger when needed...

Takes out the cost of the powered "adapter" and also takes out the need for the ghetto volume control. Easier and cleaner install, I personally still like running thru a head unit for equalization, balance and fade control. If you are fine with losing that.... once you have the amp, you could get the cable you need for a few bucks off ebay and be good to go.

here's a good fix for that control knob that was used in the OP of that thread....

gonna have to cut and paste it.... but it would be a good fix, would still need to mount it somewhere reachable, would make a good eq for an ipod or other aux only input setup. would actually work nicely with a carputer setup as well.

that could be cool... i really only listen to ipod anyways...but i am running 2 amps (to include a 4ch and sub) and without running an EQ, i couldn't see this working how i'd like it to. i'm quite content with the way my system sounds right now :)

Looks like something like this would work well.

DHD NTX6201 7 band 1/2 din EQ

It could be hidden somewhere easily, just have to mount the ipod soemwhere...

Ooh, I like this one! Clarion EQS746 I think that the one Oldschool tried linking to before.

chris posted a cool setup on EWC, I think it was from jalopnik or one of those, done in an 80s yota. Cheaper/smaller setup than installing an actual amp..... let me see if I can find it.

found it

Still looking into this, but I'm thinking of putting in old school deck, functioning, with iPod hookup. Too many ideas

I did this in my boat. Never considered doing it in a car. I bought a bluetooth compatible HU for my VW and just stream ipod or Pandora that way. But here's how it's done in my boat. Put an EQ where the HU used to be and got a charging adaptor for my iphone:

Or just eliminate the EQ all together and hide this HU away somewhere like it's intended to be hidden.

Nice! I like a nice dock with charging capability but can't find one of decent quality.
