Does this piss anyone else off too?

Postby FlyGTI » Mon Jan 29, 2007 5:01 pm

OK, so I'm watching the tube and for the 11 thousandth time, I sit miserably through the "Jetta Crashes in the Pickup, Holy shhhhh" commercial. 10 minutes later, I open my new Eurotuner and the VW accesories ad show an obviously lowered GTI, Jetta and Rabbit.

So, why is it that VW always shows their cars with sport springs in their TV and magazine ads? The dealer brochures are the same way. They show the cars on TV, looking all mean and low, but then you see one on the road or at the dealer and it looks like it's all set to run in the Paris to Dakar rally, jacked up for New Orleans hurricane season...

Ok, so it's a small thing. But it pisses me off.

Don't all car companies do that? That's why at the end, in fine print, it always says something along the lines of "car shown equipped at 35,995" or something like that.

What pisses me off is that they don't just sell GTIs like that in the first place. If you're going to embrace the tuners VW, f-ing embrace 'em. Just my .02 :D

I agree it is a little miss leading......but it is to be expected by a manufacturer who has to sell 100,000 cars a year just in the U.S. but a couple hundred bucks will make your car look just like the one on TV. ;)

Actually, the raised ride height of the GTI and GLI is due the DOT bumper height rules.

I've driven in Europe, and Japan and other places and people drive like idiots pretty much everwhere. And those parking blocks need to be lower.

i'm such a good driver i can pull up to a curb and stop a couple mm from it. my front bumper on my gti is maybe 3-4" off the ground, so there is no blocks low enough that i could drive over. even my jetta will hit most curbs.
just gotta know your car.

have you seen those small yellow ones. the reasoning behind the blocks is to keep you from hitting the car in the spot on the other side. but they dont stop some people. i have seen compact cars parked on them. i have also seen a hond@ c!v!c get high centered on one. :whoa:

but anyways. Image

this reminds me of this one time for my sister's cotillion, we practiced at the hall where the cotillion was gonna be held. so we were just chillin outside in the parking lot, then one of the chick's boyfriends gets his civic stuck on a curb, then his tranny got messed up and wouldnt go in reverse, so we had to tie his girlfriend's car to his car and we tried pulling it with no luck. then it took about 18 frickin people to lift a civic just to free his car -_-

so yeah, i agree; parking blocks and/or curbs should be lowered.

Cotillions are a Flip thing, comes from Spanish influence who conquered our land and pillaged our women :p

Almost all of my female cousins got a cotillion at 18, as well as my sisters.

Looks like you may get your wish. The GTIs are slated to get a 22mm drop in ride height for '08. Looks like it'll be starting with the Farenheit Edition cars in mid-'07.

damn, you guys gotta chill the fawk out. i think he was calling you ignorant because you said you hate honda civics. when i read it, i took it to mean that you hated all honda civics (which is what i ASSUME he was talking about as well), which if it isn't the case, i apologize for misinterpreting.
i've ridden in/raced against many a honda civic that are pretty fuckin sweet (justin has a crx turbo that's a BAD mofo, and he's done a ton of work to it..).

cars are dumb. :thumb:

i guess i should explain my resoning

ok first off i personally dont like the honda civics. yes they handle really good but i just dont like the body style. im a diehard euro enthusiast plain and simple.
i dont mind stock or slightly modified cars. they are nice but not for me. but when someone does like 90% of the 'ricers' i have seen and just go all out and modify it 'to the hilt' i hate them. that and the damn exhaust they put on them. what really pisses me off isnt the car at all its the owners that think they are all that and everyone should bow down to them.

i dont get out much so i dont see very much. but when i do get out 9 times out of 10 in my half hour drive to or from eureka there is atleast one modified 'ricer' that comes flying up on my ass. it really pisses me off when they do it. and i usually do 70 on the freeway.
