Sounds like another scam by California to generate more revenue that seems to go nowhere.

Someone will just invent a pseudo computer that tricks the OBII BS at the smog place. You are not going to beat us California!

  1. Authorize the use of On Board Diagnostic II testing to expedite the process;
  2. Vehicles known to release large amounts of pollution must test at stations with the highest performance ratings;
  3. Stricter fines structure for improper inspections;
  4. Permit the state to contract with the private sector to manage franchise-like networks of independently owned Smog Check stations;
  5. Mandate an annual evaluation of station performance using roadside tests; and,
  6. Encourage community colleges and other training institutions to develop technician-training programs.

Dude.

#2 Any GTI-VR6 would be sent to gold-shield only type places at a much higher cost.
#4 More corporate sell outs of our government programs to milk us for taxes
#5 Profiling and harassment of our cars by "random" roadside tests

This law would fucking blow.

I wonder if they take into account engine operating temp when performing these roadside checks...I bet some of these cars that were tested were not even warmed up yet and thus the catalytic converter was not as efficient...
