After cleaning it up a bit (a quick wash, aero swap, GETTING IT RUNNING  ):

Story behind the car and mods:

Previous Owner wrote:1988 Jetta GLI 16v. White. Manual 5-speed 4 door sunroof A/C power windows + locks with 155K miles and clean title.

I am the second owner of this vehicle, I‘ve had it for ten years. It was a Southern California car until 2002. It has been sitting outside in Daly City for about three years so there is some surface rust and a dent in the drivers door. The interior is in excellent condition besides the typical cracks on top of the dash.

The engine cranks but won’t run and I am now unable to work on it. So, I am selling it as is. I recently dropped the price to about the same as the junkyards offered. I'd rather brought it back to life.

Here is a list of some of the features and upgrades:
# Autotech street cams they currently cost $330 at autotech.com and have a lifetime warranty
# Recaro racing seats with power and manual functions. The driver’s seat has a small cigarette burn
# Dual Round Headlight Kit plus fog lights in front bumper
# DEI Model 550ESP car alarm with automatic remote start and battery back-up
# Big Bumper upgrade, front and rear
# Volkswagen “GLI” embroidered floor mats, black and in excellent condition
# Kumo Ecsta 195/50 R15 tires, they have 90% tread and have been siped (tread cut horizontally) to add traction during wet weather.
# Autotech cross drilled and slotted brake rotors.
# Eibach sportline springs with Koni struts
# Autotech rear upper stress bar.
# Autotech power module. It’s like a chip but for CIS-E fuel injection and has a knob to adjust fuel pressure when the peddle is all the way down.
# Polk DB series 5.25” separate front speakers with 1.5”tweeters and crossovers.
# Momo black leather shift boot with red stitching and aluminum shift knob.
# Dynomax all-welded exhaust system, less than 1,000 miles on the catalytic converter
# Neuspeed yellow heavy duty spark plug wires

That car has a lot of potentials.
I love white Gli's... Power window and recaro trophies plus high reving 16v 2.0 is definitely fun to drive.

Actually, its a 1.8, but who cares? Its a 16v!

Very nice pickup Ermin :thumb: Can't wait to see what you do to it.

I'm totally jealous of your super clean trophies, BTW. I love the black and grey, though I like my plain grey recaros, too.

If you have any simple questions, I may be able to help, though there are plenty of people around here who are smarter than me *cough*James*cough*, I've had to fix a few things on my 16v.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! Yeah for the price I couldn't resist. And the fact I haven't put any money into the motor yet is a plus, and it runs! Simply just tried cranking it and eventually whatever crap was in there allowed the car to start.

I've had an 87 16V GTI, the red one Sean currently has sitting in his garage, so i've had my share of headaches with 16v's, hehe.

I was moving it around last night, and I know at higher RPMs that car will scoot, but apparently the Autotech cams lose a bit on the low end. But, i've only had the car a week and it's running!

Can't wait to get home so I can burn 3 years of rust off the brakes

The GTI will be up for sale (1990 8v, 5 speed) and I'm thinking of selling the Cabby as well, but time will tell :eyes:

True, but hardly noticeable unless your motor is done up. 1.8 heads have better intake ports yet 2.0 heads have better exhaust ports. Overall it's just a few cfm's of difference.

Ermin, nice to finally see pictures of the car. Those trophies are clean.

I got them on my passat, too!

Those BBS rims are currently on Jesse/vdubftw650's Rado. I have the Centras on it now. The GTI has found a new home at Jim/Sureguy's house in SJ, still pondering selling the Cabby.

More pix will be up soon as it sits, with detailed pix of some of the mods :)

After a slight mishap last night, the brakes are non-functional. That will hopefully be remedied tomorrow afternoon :thumb:

Sureguy wrote:After a marathon diagnosis on the GTI it's fully functional. The Load reduction relay was in the wrong place and malfunctioning causing the terminal X to not power up the accessories. The next issue was a lack of power caused by a retarded one tooth timing belt and the O2 sensor being plugged into the knock sensor and vice-versa. Now it drives great!

Nice catches! Love/hate the multiple problem troubleshooting.

Working on a deal so I get the mk3. The wheels and various parts may be parted off the car, we're still working on getting it running. Along with the SC under the hood, it has a leather interior and some other goodies that will be parted once the car is at my house.

I think I should change my name to CapnSaveADub :eyes:
