Photos by me

Postby FamousEric » Sun Nov 09, 2008 2:09 pm

this will be a more ongoing thread as i get good with photoshop (correcting color and stuff). i'm not in to animating or much of that nature.

My camera is a Canon Rebel XSi

I'm no pro, but i've learned A LOT in the past few days. I've always known the very basics about ISO, shutter, exposure, etc. I'm always open to suggestion and criticism since i'm an amateur, so shoot away!

this is a shot i took of Jason's car at a sacwater meet a few weeks ago.

this photo: 18-55mm @ 18mm, F/5.6, ISO 400, 25 second shutter
Image

this photo: 55-250mm @ 250mm, F/5.6, ISO 1600, .6 sec shutter (no tripod)
this SOB kept moving and acted like he was gonna jet, it was hard for me to get him still, as well as me not shaking.
Image

this photo: 18-55mm @ 18mm, f/3.5, ISO 1600, 1/5 sec shutter (no tripod)
too much noise i know, not having a good tripod sucks...my pictures turned out worse trying to use one.
Image

this photo: 18-55mm @ 18mm, f/3.5, ISO 1600, .6 sec shutter (no tripod)
again..no tripod makes for some noise in my pictures :(
Image

this photo: 18-55mm @ 18mm, f/5.6, ISO 1600, 1/20 sec shutter (no tripod)
little noise..

Just a tip, leave your camera in the lowest iso setting...my lowest was 200 and I never changed it, rarely ever had noise in my pictures.

That last pic is sick though, I need to get another DSLR...starting to miss mine. :funny:

i wish i could have ran my lowest (100) iso setting, but i had forgot to pack my tripod, which was a big mistake. a friend i went with had his, and his lil selfish ass wouldn't let me use it. lol. oh well, i got a few good pictures.

the night pics look good but they are way to grainy, next time take ur tripod and use ISO 100 a higher fnumber, i usually use like f/18 or so, and run the exposure time as long as it take to make the photo look correct. i dont know in about the XSi, but on my XTi you just need to buy a $10 wireless remote to be able to do longer exposures. check this pic out, there was hardly any light at all on the fountain so i used a longer exposure time and that also blurred the water :thumb:

ISO 400 F/18 165 seconds exposure

keep on experimenting!!! :thumb: :thumb:

that's pretty awesome man, thanks for the input!

i bought a remote (like yours) off ebay, it was like 5 bucks shipped and it gets the job done. i really wish i would have had a tripod, man it would have made so much of a difference in my pictures... my newest lens is a 50mm f/1.8, tomorrow i plan to buy the 14mm f/2.8....that's going to do some work in the quick night shots!

i like the blurred water effect that your picture has..165 seconds is crazy! guess you can do that at that low of an aperture... i've been non-stop reading in all these different dslr mags that my brain is bursting. i fired m16 today, and all i could think about was, "man if this was a picture, i'd want to capture the middle third of that target, and hold frickin still because it's a slow shutter!" haha.
