I finally took 5 minutes to troubleshoot why we STILL had a misfire in the #5 hole. Amazing what a good plug wire can do for power output :thumb: Her runs like a raped ape now.

Couple things left though...James, you around?

Have you read or done research on oil? For some reason I recollect that a few people had trouble with oil consumption when using Shell Rotella T. Does that ring a bell for you?
I don't put much faith in anyone who says one is tremendously superior to another, especially if you stick with 5k miles or less between changes for synthetic and 3~3.5k miles for dino-juice, but I have religiously used Rotella T 5w-40 and have religiously had excessive oil consumption. There DEFINITELY could be a few reasons other than oil selection but I'll rule the oil out first before I tear it down again. :thumbsdow

Saw the TB when dealing with my sister's 2.0 with the consumption problem. She totaled it before the tracking was done.

Ours is a 2000 VR, with 160,XXX miles. Been through it twice, second time, no head work...didn't even check it. I should have checked the guides.

No valve stem seals on the exhaust guides...with guides that aren't worn this shouldn't be an issue..but they may now be worn with excessive clearance.

When I went through the head, the first time, the only wear was on the exhaust valves and guides. Didn't want it to happen again. The ONLY downside we've seen was a puff of smoke on start up. Oil consumption wasn't originally a problem after the rebuild...not until we had about 40k miles on the build did it manifest itself.
