wieght reduction questions

Postby rorinmk28v » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:12 pm

ok i have a 1985 jetta 4 door
i just want to know what else i should take off for a weight reduction. because i cant find a site that makes carbon fiber doors fenders or anything else. just a hood. now i removed everything that i dont need in my engine bay. the only interior i have is a wire harness a dash and two seats. i striped all tar padding, and instillation. is there sonething else i can do. my goal is to get from 1500 pounds to 1000 pounds.

and also when is enough weight loss, enough?

enough is enough when the only thing left in the car is you lol. the only other thing is to take off the doors, trunk, hood, fenders anything that is not bolted down.

There is no way you are getting a mk2 to 1500 lbs. Sorry. A gutted rabbit. Meaning, nothing. No tar, no nothing. Just engine harness, dash, seat and motor and running gear weighs in at 1680 and a touch over 1800 with a full cage.

Fender liners removed? Removed all body undercoating? Lexan windows? Removed all unnecessary wires from harness? (Cig lighter, interior lighting, etc...) Pulled the HVAC system? (blower motor, ducting, vents, heater core, etc...) Got a hole saw? Could be swiss-cheese time... :)

nah I am to poor to buy tires. But there is no AAS autoX this year so I will just wait till I have a job to pay for tires. But I am researching a DIY mini tub so I can fit a 355/25/19 in the back.

1500lbs? there is no way... i agree with shawn on this one. i would love to see a MKII JETTA at that weight. maybe you should try this... lose a few pounds yourself or cut the roof off

you can do a single layer windshield like the ones WRC cars use. Plexi rear windsheild. I havent read the whole post so im not sure if anyone has mentioned these things yet. Remove rear bumper re-bar. COnvert to a fuel cell, two piece brake rotors
