well most of my vw knowlege is based on mk3 but i dont understand why you would need spacers id you dont now, to clear the brakes. your struts dont move. now if you got a thicker strut (coilovers are ussually thinner) then you might need spacers but not cuz you are lower. if you do need spacers for some odd reason then how are we supposed to tell you how thick, if you dont tell us how wide your wheels are and the offset on them? i think tucking a 16 on a mk4 is a pretty healthy drop. why dont you install the coils and then all your questions will b answered and your car will be lower.

here is my car on 17x7.5 with 42 offset. no spacer needed in the front tires just barely rub in the fenders. i got 1/4 spacers on each side in the rear just to get it a slight wider look on weitech 60mm drop up front and stock haight in rear

hi.
i don't have coils, but i do have a mk4 on 16's with spacers. i'm dropped on koni yellows/H&R race springs, and i'm not tucking the tires yet. anyway, here's an old picture of my ride on the races (~2" drop), with 20mm spacers out back and 8mm in the front. i know there's a dude local (jeremiah) that has some Koni coils he's looking to get rid of...
the spacers seem like a really good fit, and if i was any lower, i'd literally be dragging my skidplate on every little bump (i'm pretty much there now).

if you're going for at least a 2.5" drop on 16's, you're gonna be low. if you don't get a skidplate, pick up a spare oil pan or two.

koni coils all the way down f/r with perches still in. no spacers needed. but some kind of adjustment to the sway is rec'd. youll rub axle and sway on the smallest thing. one finger gap, not tucked. FK and B&G go low. koni, bilstein, kw, h&r, weitec... not so low, but all close the gap up nicely.

sorry for the incomplete sentences.

on koni yes. there are others that go a lot lower. but as said, that takes work too. (notch, fsb, final et's, etc)

but to stay on topic, you'll need at least a 3in drop to be tucked. are you going to be on stock wheels or after market, if you are going aftermarket, then its all about offset.

Caught the irony but...eh :thumb:

I'm going to go invest in the oe manufacturer of your oil pan. If you want me to make a fortune, get yourself a skid plate as Humboldt Corrado recommended. Does anyone other than DIESELGEEK make one?

HEY! What happened to the old skid plates?

Found this one too.

It may look cool, but you'll ride like hell with my old set up:

- Tokico Blue shocks
- Cut VR6 Neuspeed Sport front springs

Newer setup:

- Bilstein Yellow shocks
- Neuspeed 1.8T Sport Springs (uncut)
