Looking for a shop for VR6 Swap

Postby Benthefrench » Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:35 pm

Ok, i have 9k to buy an MK2 and drop a VR6 in it, might go turbo later on,

I never did any VR6 swap, how much will that cost me to have a shop do it, and did anybody know a place i can call to get estimate ?

I dont have the time to do the swap right now sadly, i would love to do it :(

Other question :

What do you think is the best ?

Vr6 ?
or
16V Turbo ?

Thx guys, i need your help on that one. :)

16V turbo on stand alone since it's lighter but if you're not into autocross vr6T is where it's at.

Hit up sureguy. Don't know if he has done a vr6 swap on a mk2 already but if you are willing to pay TST tomassports tuning do clean swaps and has done a lot of them already.

$1,500-2,500 for a decent mk2....Jetta's are cheaper but i would get a jetta coupe or a Gti 16v body just because of the recaro interior.
$800-1,500 for a whole vr6 car
corrado/passat front cross member
Kinetic stage II
quaife, new clutch, flywheel
etc
....Damn having 9k makes me dream about it.

1) find a mk2
2) find a VR6 or 16V motor +ECU and other components
3)call james AKA sureguy get an estimate
4)make an apointment
5)dont ask "are you done yet" im kidding james
6)spend some cash and enjoy your ride

1. you actually cant use the front subframe you need to use the subframe from a vr corrado, its a direct replacement.
2. Good luck finding a low milage complete car with a vr for any where near 1500 the only thing you might find is one with a blown motor for that much, which isnt too bad cause vr short blocks arent too exspensive.
3. You will want to swap the dash over from the mk3 as well, so that you dont have to adapt the wiring to work with your gauges, just makes the swap a whole lot easier.
4. the vr uses an o2a where the 16v uses an 020 tranny i believe the 020 will bolt up but you will for sure need to change the flywheel and clutch

so a little more involved then led to believe if you would like some help let me know i can give you some pointers and if youre serious i can help with the swap if you want to save some money.
for all your aftermarket and oem parts needs hit me up matt@vbautohaus.com or check out the site http://www.vbautohaus.com

:)
You can still use the stock mk2 front cross member if you want to use just what you have but the corrado front cross member is better.I'm replacing mine with a corrado slc just to be compliant and so I can use the VF engineering mounts.

And I'm running a 98 vr6 obd2 engine with everything down to the tranny & plus suspension, stock mk2 dash though but deciding if I want to do a corrado dash or a mk3 gti dash.

You can still get an vr6 swap car for less than 1k but not low mileage,...actually there was one selling for $600 and there was that other passat vr6 that was for sale for $800 http://sacwater.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9821
